Marylebone was the last London terminus to retain semaphore signals.
These were the platform starters prior to the 1990 resignalling.

A closer view of another starter, to the right of the ones shown above.
Note the different style of bracket and white-painted WR-type finials.

Neasden South Junction |
March 83 |
Neasden South Junction. The line to the right is the former Met & GC line to
Harrow-on-the-Hill, Aylesbury and beyond, while that to
Northolt Jct diverges to the left.
In the left foreground is the chord from
Neaden (Midland) Junction
on the Acton-Cricklewood line.

|
The view in the opposite direction, towards Marylebone (left)
and
Neasden (Midland) Jct
(right). On the very left is Neasden Jubilee Line station.
|
A rear view of the down junction signal. The colour-light up starter can be
seen to the left of the bridge.
|
|
|
Neasden South Jct had this very unusual down splitting distant.
The section between Marylebone and here was TCB, and it's as if a separate pair
of distants had been sited at the same location - note how each signal head is on
a separate post.
|
January 83
The same signal, cleared for a train towards
Northolt Jct.
The lower heads only lit up when one of the distants had been cleared.
The arrangement of the main line distant with the yellow above the green is not unusual,
but having the green at the bottom of the main 3-aspect head most certainly is.

A face-on shot of the down junction signal, with the line from
Neasden (Midland) Jct
on the left.
|
April 83
Because of the intervening overbridge, these banner repeaters were
provided for the junction signal, whose post can be seen beyond.
Unusual for the banners to be at equal height when the junction signal
itself has a higher arm for the Aylesbury route.

|
A better view of the down junction signal.

A view of the signalbox from the other direction.

|
A much more recent shot of the chord to
Neasden (Midland) Jct.
The line has been singled and the colour-light is controlled from Marylebone Signalling Centre.
|
The modern view towards Marylebone. The bridge in the middle distance
carries the
Acton - Cricklewood
freight line - in the top right you can just see
Neasden (Midland) Jct's
down starter, with
Dudding Hill Jct's
distant beneath.
