High Wycombe is an important station on the former Great Western & Great Central joint line. Until
the 1990 Marylebone resignalling, it retained through running lines with platform loops as well as the
down-side bay that survives today. It also had a
good collection of lower-quadrant signals, despite the line's
transfer to the LMR of British Rail some years previously. This is the view from the London end of the down platform, looking towards Gerrards Cross. |
The view in the same direction from the up platform, with a down train signalled into the platform. In the foreground are the up starters, a fine gantry of centre-pivots (though it originally had five arms before the branch to Maidenhead closed). The one casualty of the transfer to the LMR appears to be the white-painted finial balls. In the distance are the up main advanced starter and down home. |

The London end of the station, from the up platform. |
These signals controlled the exit from a siding on the down side, beyond the bay platform. |
The signalbox. The elevated disc signal in front of it is mounted on a post which appears once to have had a main arm, probably for a move onto the former Maidenhead branch. |
The line towards Princes Risborough, with the down platform loop and down main starters on the left, and the entrance to the up platform loop opposite. |
The view beyond from the footbridge visible in the above photo, with the up homes in the foreground. |
